Reading Week

It was a slow week reading for me but a good one!

See the review below that I posted this weekend on CONSENT FOR THE COWBOY by Abby Wood. Way good sizzling read! I know erotic romance some may not read this genre so if you do read some, check it out.

I then finally got to re-start THE SERPENT PRINCE by Elizabeth Hoyt that I put down a couple of weeks ago.  Now I so can't decide which is my favorite of that trilogy, The Raven Prince, The Leopard Prince or The Serpent Prince.  I think they were each so unique that there's no way to pick a favorite.  I so recommend her if you love reading historical romances. Check out her site, she has an upcoming series called Maiden Lane, I'm so excited about!
Wicked Intentions
August 2010
Maiden Lane Series Book 1 (lots of goodies, including book markers book extras, excerpts and more at her site!)

Up next for me is a historical romance by Alice Gaines, MISS FOSTER'S FOLLY and an erotic contemporary western romance, TEXAS TANGLE by Leah Braemel, both new releases from Carina Press.  Then I'm not sure what is next for me.  Maybe if I can find, I'll grab one from my challenge I'm doing and then to some other books I want to re-read and post the reviews on that I promised some before my surgery happened.

Sorry on the lack of giveaways here lately, that I do myself.  I don't do the giveaways from the different publishers but rather from myself and due to certain health related, I'm unable to do right now. I hope that you'll still visit and post with me on all you're reading.  Hopefully after I'm done with PT I can start to do giveaways again!

So how was your reading week. What did you read? What's up next for you to read this week?

PS Had fun making a signature for my blog. Since I'm using the widgets for Amazon, I had to add the info there, trying to figure out how to shorten it, since I just basically using it for the pics and so that the readers can find the books. You know me, I love posting covers!

*I am an Amazon affiliate and per Amazon, I am to receive a very small referral fee for purchases made using a link on this blog anywhere in the posts or posted on my blog. I only use this because the widgets help post the covers of the books I am chatting about and you can easily find the book at Amazon by clicking there. If you are going to purchase a featured book just click the widget and it will bring you directly to the book at Amazon.*

Review: CONSENT TO THE COWBOY by Abby Wood

Note, this is a review for adults over 18 years of age.

I've had the joy to review an upcoming release on June 28, from the new ebook publisher, Carina Press, a sub-division of Harlequin.

Heroine Daphne Norris is a barmaid in her hometown of Podunk.  A strong independent woman who knows her own mind and cares less what others think of her until they see her dating a cowboy since she put off so many in town.  Daphne captures a strong sensual reaction to seeing Will as he's vying for the title of champion bronc rider in her hometown of Podunk.  Daphne's past is difficult for her and doesn't want to saddle herself with any man.  She doesn't want her family past to repeat within her.  Nor does she want someone to take on emotionally that they will some day get up and leave her. She wanted someone who's dominant, strong, secure and control of his life, someone stronger than her.  She had fantasies of being a submissive woman, but wasn't sure she could trust someone, nor put herself in a vulnerable position. With Daphne's past experience with cowboys and her family, she's not prepared to give her heart but consents to giving Will 3 days of pleasure and then decide if she is leaving.  But she falls strongly in love for Will and it scares her.   Her love for Will is challenged and her past comes back to her hard.

Will had not rode in a competition for 5 years and at the last moment decided to compete more for reminding himself he could still do it and how much he did it before to escape from the past.  Its there that he meets Daphne and has a strong physical reaction when watching and talking with her.  As he insists to meet her,  he realizes the she has the need to have trust and control again. As a submissive, she would be a woman who would do anything he requests as a dominant.  By following his every order, he in returns makes her the happiest, build trust in their relationship. He promises never to leave her, to hurt her,  and will always share his life with her.  He knew what it was like escaping and dealing with emotions that make you vulnerable.  He has been running his own life.  He didn't want to be alone anymore, nor did he want Daphne to be alone.  Will too wants from the relationship with Daphne to be the kind of woman who would never neglect or leave him once she made up her mind.  For him, it turned him on to have control and denying his own pleasure while giving it to someone else.  He won't let others in his past control him again and worked hard to leaving the past behind him. He knows that Daphne has fragile emotions and he needs her to depend on him, to let him support her. Its his responsibility as a Dom to figure out how to give her all she needs.

Both Daphne and Will are caught up in a relationship that is the strongest in reaction and tension from the first page.  Their love for one another is immediate, but Daphne's trust for Will is tested and her past catches up with her.  As Will private business is being thwarted by those in his past, he vows not to let them control him again.  His love for Daphne is so delicate at the same time fiery! Author Abby Wood brings the story to a breathtaking ending!  This book is incredible, strong in plot, high in sexual tension, emotions and adventures. Moderated but flaming BDSM scenes and a very loving and embracing relationship between Daphne and Will was beautiful to read. Abby Wood has a winner here with CONSENT TO THE COWBOY. I loved the scenes too with her horse from Will.  Here's hoping for more cowboy stories from author Abby Wood, along with seeing Ana, Daphne's friend story! You'll be hoping (and begging) that the author does tell Ana's story with a cowboy and more in the setting of the town of Podunk!

THE MERMAIDS ARE COMING! With Devyn Quinn

Look what's coming from Devyn Quinn! I so love reading fantasy romance, and especially Mermaids and mermen, sirens, sea gods and the like! I discovered this genre through ebooks and just so elated about this new series of hers, Dark Tides starting with SIREN'S CALL! Check out Devyn Quinn's site here about SIREN'S CALL and the blurb below:

Siren’s Call
Between desire and love there are some things that can’t stay buried, even in the deep of the ocean.
As a woman with a secret, lighthouse keeper Tessa Lonike savors her solitude on the island of Little Mer, off the coast of Maine. During a violent storm, Tessa spots a man thrashing in the ice cold waters and dives in to save him, using her ability as a mermaid to easily pull him to shore.

When Kenneth Randall awakens on the beach he is alone, left with the haunting memory of his beautiful, flame-haired savior. But a year later, when Kenneth meets her again, he’s determined not to let Tessa slip away. Just as the desire between them begins to burn, Tessa’s archaeologist ex-lover comes back to town with a tantalizing clue to her murky heritage.

The trio travel to the Mediterranean in search of answers, and when Tessa inadvertently opens an underwater portal they find a lost mermaid city. But in the deep, not everything is as it seems, and Tessa must decide if she wants to take her place as the royal heir, or follow the call of her heart…

“Siren’s Call is a thoroughly mesmerizing ride — Quinn throws open the doors to an unbelievable world where nothing is as expected. At once terrifying and fascinating and unbelievably entertaining, this is a book you won’t forget.” -Kate Douglas, bestselling author of Wolf Tales & The DemonSlayers

“The author fully pulled me into her world that she created in her mind and put down on paper. I wasn’t left confused or needing to backtrack some pages to figure out what she was talking about, everything flowed smoothly. This story quickly drew me in and was overall fun. It is the first book in a new series called Dark Tides. I am definitely interested in reading the next book in this series. 4.5 Stars. ” – Night Owl Romance

Its up on Amazon for pre-order too!

Don't forget to check out Devyn Quinn's:

While waiting for this one, check out her other books! She has everything paranormal to choose from!  Have you read Devyn Quinn yet? Which would be a top favorite of yours? If you haven't read yet, check her site and post which ones do you want to read?   FLESH AND THE DEVIL, I believe was her first and one that I often want to read again.  Its dark, edgy, sexy with vamps and demons! I'm off to see what I missed!

Summer Book Reading Challenges

I've not done any book challenges before and saw one up yesterday and it reminded me of seeing others. I may have planned to do one once but then lost my computer, so that didn't work out. So here's me doing my first one suggested from another romance reader.  Do you have any book challenges for this summer or any you do at your blogs or personally? Post about them and I'll check them out and maybe do another book challenge!

The first book challenge I'm doing this summer is from fellow romance reader, Rita on Not Another Romance Blog, has a reading challenge for this summer called 'The Seductive Summer' on her blog.  I love the challenge because of the seductive theme as well as them all being historical romances.  Below are what books are up for the reading challenge  (I inserted a couple because I read before and wanted to challenge myself to read another of that authors book that is waiting in the TBR for me, because I had already read the book in the challenge! You can do re-reads if that happens per the challenge). I'm one who almost always reads series in order, so this challenge is not book one in the series for most. So those I didn't read, I'll be challenging myself jumping into the middle of the series.  I'm sure it will convince me to go back and read the rest in the series.  For series info, you can check the author's site with their name below or check out FictionDB (Fiction Database. Love this site)

Victoria Alexander, Seduction of a Proper Gentleman, Last Man Standing, book 04#, last in series.

Mary Balogh, At Last Comes Love, Huxtable Quintet, book #03 (just read that, so I'll be reading , the next one due for me to read in this series Seducing An Angel by Mary Balogh).

Stephanie Laurens, Beyond Seduction, Bastion Club book #06 (I'm not sure this is the next for me that was up for me to read in this Baston Club series so I may be breaking my rule of 'reading series in order, only' LOL. I'll blame Rita :)

Madeline Hunter, The Rules Of Seduction, Rothwell Series book #01

Laura Lee Guhrke, With Seduction In Mind, Girl Bachelors #04

Julia Quinn, Everything And The Moon (First book in a two book related stories. Book #02 is Brighter Than The Sun)

Lisa Kleypas, Lady Sophia's Lover, Bowstreet Runners book #02 (Loved this book, you must read if you haven't and all of the Bowstreet Runners series!
So I'm challenging myself to start the first in the Hathaway series with Mine Till Midnight)

Johanna Lindsey, No Choice But Seduction,The Mallory's book #09

Johanna Lindsey, The Magic of You, The Mallory's book #04 (I listed Fantastic Fiction site for Johanna Lindsey's books. I was unable to locate a site of hers and she has more than one publisher. With Johanna Lindsey, I can't remember which I read, and I know I didn't read much of them, so I might as well jump in anywhere and then plan to read the rest of these later on).

Now, where are my books that I have already in this house? Especially the Johanna Lindsey that I got so long ago! I have most of these except for a couple that I'll be checking the library out or buying.  Have a great weekend!

Review: SANCTUARY by Cassidy Hunter (Erotic Romance)

I had the joy to review SANCTUARY by Cassidy Hunter, an ebook of erotic romance (shape-shifter, paranormal and menage) from Loose ID.  It's available also in kindle on Amazon.  This was one passionate, sizzling, arousing adventurous read that I'd so recommend to those who enjoy erotic romance and paranormals! Here's a blurb from the publisher's site:

Cassidy Hunter's Sanctuary
ISBN:         978-1-60737-572-2
Genre:         Shape-shifter Paranormal Menage
Length:         Novel

Kimberlyn is a were at odds with herself. She longs to express her true nature, but she's not sure what that is. What she knows is that she needs lovers who can satisfy her needs for rough sex and submission. What she doesn't know is that as the only Healer of her kind, she's incredibly valuable to the pack that can claim her.

Pack Alpha Logan and his partner Andrew need a third to solidify their pack and protect it from the Bears who want to take over. They know Kimberlyn's their girl from the moment they lay eyes on her. Now they just need to convince her they can fulfill her darkest desires. And to keep her away from the Bears.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, dubious consent, exhibitionism, ménage/moresome (m/f/m, m/f/m/m), same sex interaction (f/f), sex while in shifted form, voyeurism.

Cover Art by Valerie Tibbs

Review:  Author Cassidy Hunter creates an unique world with her shape-shifting world of wolves in the woods called Sanctuary, hence the title of the book.  The woods and the Haven of their home in Sanctuary is beautifully and visually described in this book.  Kimberlyn just moves to her home that she inherits and looks forward to finally being able to be her, a werewolf, and to run the woods without worry of being seen by others.  The author lets you physically feel Kimberlyn's freedom as she's running in wolf form. During her first run, she finds a Pack of wolves standing over their leader, Logan Walker who is on his bed of death.  The pack sees her watching  and she convinces the pack that she's a healer and can heal their alpha leader. The Pack is awed with her skills and she does heal Logan.  Logan was hurt by bear-shifters, who are mostly the villains in this book.  That's a hint that you'll want to find out more about these villains!  Logan is one strong alpha leader for his pack!  I've read various books over time with alpha heroes and he's one that remains strong throughout the book. I definitely could so visualize and feel Logan as I read this story.  As the pack wants Kimberlyn to be of their Pack, she fights this since its her first time being free and independent.  This is something that Kimberlyn so strongly feels about that she can't make this decision without time by herself because she is also having a strong reaction to the attraction to both Logan and his beta lover, Andrew, or Drew, as Logan calls him.  I loved how Logan called him Drew, it was like an endearment between them.  Andrew also is so protective of Kimberlyn.  You can see if in almost every move he makes! Andrew and Logan are strong together and are in a love and in a sexual relationship, but they would be at their fullest if Kimberlyn would join to be their mates and leaders to the Pack together. They would then be powerful together to fight off the bear shifters and protect their pack. As Kimberlyn so is fighting emotionally whether to stay or to first have time to be independent to decide, the Pack and Kimberlyn is faced with danger as well as falling in love together as three. The scenes of them are very loving and sizzling!

Author Cassidy Hunter has a great start to more stories set in Sanctuary.  There's a sequel being written now but I'm not sure of what. I'm hoping that some other heroes mentioned in the book will also have their stories.  Plus we'll get to visit with Kimberlyn, Logan and Andrew again!  SANCTUARY is a gripping story from page one until the end, ongoing adventurous that will leave you wanting to read in one sitting.  I'm over joyed with reviewing this book for this author and so can't recommend it more! If you're not into reading erotic romance, she also writes romance as Jane E. Jones which are romantic romance at The Wild Rose Press.

4 June Romance releases from Simon & Schuster

Simon &  Schuster publishers celebrate their romance June releases with Rushed to the Altar by Jane Feather (6/22), One Season of Sunshine by Julia London (6/29), Nancy Gideon's Chased by Moonlight (6/29) and Unspeakable- Book 2 in Laura Griffin's Chaser series (6/29). Check them out below and at their site HERE!
The blurbs below are from the publisher's site and too I listed their sites. I got a huge wishlist going now!  I love Jane Feather, Nancy Gideon (I had read her older vampire series, but yet to get this new Moonlight series) and Julia London! Laura Griffin is a new to me author
Check out Jane Feather's SITE  and the blurb for RUSHED TO THE ALTAR:
From New York Times bestselling author Jane Feather comes the first of a wonderful new trilogy, The Blackwater Brides, set in the sensually im-proper Georgian period, in which three noble brothers discover they will be forced to find brides under highly unusual circumstances.

Jasper Sullivan, Earl of Blackwater, needs a prostitute. Not in the usual way, however. His wealthy uncle’s will promises to divide his huge fortune among his nephews if each rescues a fallen woman . . . by marrying her! And since Jasper’s estates were already mortgaged to the hilt before he inherited them, when he catches a pretty young prostitute trying to pick his pocket, he immediately makes his proposal.

h Clarissa Astley is not at all what Jasper believes. The orphaned daughter of a prosperous merchant, she is searching the seedier districts of London for her young brother, abducted by their evil guardian, who wants the little boy’s inheritance. But she needs powerful help, and the darkly handsome Earl of Blackwater is certainly that. So she pretends to be exactly what he assumed— a risky charade for an innocent virgin. But when passion flares between Jasper and Clarissa, the deception becomes even more difficult to handle. . .

Nancy Gideon's second Moonlight book, CHASED BY MOONLIGHT:

In Nancy Gideon's seductive new novel, a tough-as-nails New Orleans cop must choose between the career she's dedicated to and the dangerous shape-shifting lover she can't resist.  She's sleeping with the enemy.

Mixing business with pleasure gets more complicated for Detective Charlotte Caissie when her sexy preternatural lover, Max Savoie, is accused of a high-profile murder. To prove him innocent she must distance herself, but her tangled emotions don’t make it easy for her to stay away from him. And neither does Max. HE’S

DESPERATE TO UNCOVER HIS PAST. Left in charge of a criminal empire and protector of a clan of shadowy shape-shifters, Max walks a precarious line. Can he believe the cunning stranger who claims he can teach Max the things he needs to know to stay alive? A con man who would betray anyone to make a profit, who may be a ruthless killer?

TOGETHER, THEY’RE TEMPTING FATE.
The harder Cee Cee fights to clear Max’s name, the more he pushes her away. He’s protecting a dark truth that could blow the top off her investigation. And that means hiding his motives and lying to a woman who values truth above all. The woman who can save him . . . if he’ll let her.

ONE SEASON OF SUNSHINE by Julia London:
Should some questions be left unanswered?

Adopted as an infant, Jane Aaron longs to know the identity of her birth mother and why she gave her up. Her only clue is the name of the small Texas town where she was born, so she’s come to Cedar Springs for answers. Handsome ad executive Asher Price lost his wife, the beautiful, mysterious Susanna, in a terrible car crash eighteen months ago. When he hires Jane as the nanny for his two children, sparks fly.

Jane finds herself falling in love with both Asher and his children, but begins to suspect that Susanna was not the perfect mother and wife the family portrays her to have been. As Jane gets closer and closer to finding out the truth about both her own and Susanna’s past, devastating secrets begin to emerge that may be more than anyone can bear. Will the truth bring Jane and Asher closer together or tear them apart forever?

UNSPEAKABLE, book 2 in the Chaser series by Laura Griffin:

ELAINA MCCORD WANTS TO FIND A KILLER. BUT HE’S ALREADY FOUND HER.

Elaina McCord’s dream of being an FBI profiler is threatened by her very first case—investigating a string of murders near a Texas beach resort. The victims, all young women, were drugged and brutally murdered, their bodies abandoned in desolate marshland. Elaina’s hunch—met with disbelief by local police—is that these are only the latest offerings from a serial killer who has been perfecting his art for years, growing bolder and more cunning with each strike.

True-crime writer Troy Stockton has a reputation as an irresistible playboy who gets his story at any cost. He’s the last person Elaina should trust, let alone be attracted to. But right now Troy, along with the elite team of forensics experts known as the Tracers, is her only ally in a case that’s turning dangerously personal. A killer is reaching out to Elaina, taunting her, letting her know how ruthless he is and how close he’s getting. Now it’s not just her career that’s in jeopardy—it’s her life. . . .
